18 to 28 Jun, 31 Jul to 7 Aug, 15 to 22 Aug, 30 Aug to 6 Sep, 14 to 21 Sep, 29 Sep to 6 Oct
Operating during August and September each season, this is one of our most popular cruises. Highlights include exploring the stories, nature walks, and swimming holes at Kings Cascade, experiencing the mystery of Montgomery Reef, marveling at the stunning Wandjana Aboriginal rock art, visiting Careening Bay’s historic Mermaid Tree, and witnessing the world-famous Horizontal Falls.
Day 1 – Broome to Mitchell Plateau
Today, you’ll be transferred from Broome to the Mitchell Plateau airstrip via light aircraft. Upon arrival, our helicopter will be ready to take you on a scenic flight over the stunning Mitchell Falls before landing on the MV Great Escape to kick off your cruise. It’s a breathtaking way to begin your Kimberley adventure. Your crew will welcome you aboard, and you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch before we set off to explore the Hunter River, an incredibly scenic waterway teeming with barramundi and mud crabs. This afternoon, you’ll have the option to take a helicopter ride to Manning Peak for sunset drinks.
Day 2 – York Sound
In the morning, we’ll cruise to York Sound, where we’ll embark on a walk through a tropical rainforest, culminating in a refreshing swim at Benno’s waterfall. Depending on the tides, we’ll fish for barramundi around Boongari Island. After lunch, we’ll head to Careening Bay for an expedition to see the historic Boab Tree carved by Philip Parker King in 1820 when they careened their vessel for repairs. We’ll anchor for the night at Python Cliffs, nestled under the majestic shadows of Mount Waterloo and Trafalgar. The scenery in this area is truly breathtaking.
Day 3 – St Georges Basin
If the tides cooperate, we’ll start the day with an early morning fishing opportunity. Then, we’ll cruise through Saint Georges Basin to the mouth of the Prince Regent, heading towards the famous Kings Cascades. The Skipper will position the boat under the waterfall for a stunning photo opportunity. After anchoring in the river, we’ll use the tender boats to reach the river’s edge, where we’ll walk through rocky outcrops and along the fern-lined waterfall, eventually arriving at a waterhole behind the falls. There’s also an option for a scenic helicopter flight to view this unique river system from above.
Day 4 – Camden Harbour
Camden Harbour is rich in history, marking the first attempted European settlement in the Kimberley, which ultimately failed. We’ll explore the remnants of this old settlement and uncover its intriguing past. Tide permitting, we’ll also gather a delicious feast of Kimberley rock oysters before cruising past Kuri Bay on our way to Sampson Inlet.
Day 5 – Montgomery Reef
We’ll raise the anchor early for a cruise to Montgomery Reef, a remarkable reef structure known for its stunning cascading waterfalls in the middle of the ocean. Your crew will share the fascinating history of the area as we look for grazing turtles, roaming sharks, and the occasional dugong. You’ll also have the thrilling opportunity to view the reef from the air with our onboard helicopter. Finally, we’ll spend the late afternoon cruising into Doubtful Bay, where we’ll anchor for the evening.
Day 6 – Doubtful Bay
Awaken to breathtaking views of the stunning Raft Point headland. We’ll spend the day exploring waterfalls, swimming, and fishing in the Glenelg River, Red Cone Creek, or Three Ways. In the evening, you’ll join the crew and fellow guests to watch the sunset and toast to a day filled with adventure.
Day 7 – Horizontal Falls
On your last full day onboard, you’ll wake up in the stunning Talbot Bay area. We’ll experience the world-famous Horizontal Falls via tender boat, with an option for a scenic flight as well. Lunch will be served onboard as we cruise out of Talbot Bay, weaving through numerous small islands and the Koolan Island Gap. You might also take a refreshing swim in the freshwater at Dugong Bay or enjoy the turquoise waters and explore the pristine silica-white sand beaches. In the late afternoon, we’ll begin our cruise past Cape Leveque, celebrating our final evening together onboard as we head towards Broome.
Day 8 – Broome
After sharing so many memorable experiences with the crew and fellow guests, this is a significant day for everyone. We’ll cruise overnight into Broome and disembark the boat at 8:00 AM for a bus transfer to your accommodation in Broome.
Please note: This is a typical itinerary and whilst your adventure will be similar to the one described here, tides will affect the itinerary. We plan each day according to the tides and often modify or rearrange the schedule to work in with Mother Nature.
