Wyndham to Mitchell Plateau & Vice Versa

Cruising takes place from April to May each season. You have the option to sail from north to south (6 nights) or the reverse (7 nights). The Northern Kimberley coast boasts vast gorge country, with a stunning landscape often dubbed the Kings of the Kimberley. Highlights of the journey include the breathtaking Berkeley River, the hidden gem of Atlantis Bay, the impressive King George River and Twin Falls, fishing for the elusive barramundi on the Drysdale River, and a scenic helicopter ride over Mitchell Falls.

Day 1 – Wyndham to Berkeley River
Your crew will greet you onboard around 5:00 PM at the Wyndham Jetty, offering drinks and canapés. Shortly after, we’ll set sail for the stunning Berkeley River. Dinner will be served as we embark, and afterward, you’ll have the evening to settle into your room, get acquainted with the boat, and unwind.

Day 2 – Mitchell River
The Berkeley River in the Kimberley features stunning gorges, waterfalls, and sandstone cliffs. This remarkable river system provides a range of soft adventure activities, including nature walks and swimming in freshwater rock pools. You’ll also have the chance to fish for barramundi and take a scenic walk to a waterhole. In the afternoon, we’ll cruise back down the river and anchor just outside the river mouth to enjoy drinks while watching the sunset.

Day 3 – King George River
As you enjoy breakfast, you’ll be surrounded by cathedral-like gorges while we cruise along the magnificent King George River. We’ll take you close to the cascading waterfalls, where you can even take a refreshing shower on the bow of the boat. The rest of the day will be spent exploring and soaking in the breathtaking scenery this region has to offer.

Day 4 – Vansittart Bay
We’ll start the day with a fishing excursion that will provide our delicious lunch buffet. We’ll target various pelagic species, including Giant Trevally, Queenfish, Tuna, and Mackerel, and there’s a chance to catch Mangrove Jack, Fingermark, or Bluebone. After fishing, we’ll take a refreshing swim before trekking to view the fascinating Bradshaw (Gwion Gwion) ancient rock art galleries. Once back onboard, a delectable fresh lunch will be served as we cruise into the cove to explore a wrecked World War II DC3 plane. In the evening, we’ll cruise around the Osborne Islands.

Day 5 – Osborne Islands
The Osborne Islands are a protected group of islands that provide plenty of opportunities for adventure. We’ll kick off the day with either a fishing excursion or a beachcombing adventure. Later in the morning, the group can choose to take a helicopter ride to a secluded waterfall for a picnic lunch and a refreshing swim. In the evening, if the weather permits, we’ll gather on a remote beach to enjoy the sunset and a cosy bonfire.

Day 6 – Mitchell River
This open estuary river serves as an ideal spot for hunting the elusive barramundi. We’ll also drop some mud crab pots before settling down for a bite to eat. After lunch, we’ll embark on an excursion to Surveyors Creek, a charming gorge located about halfway down the Mitchell River, where you can enjoy a swim in a large waterhole. Our final evening will be spent anchored on the Mitchell River as we come together to celebrate the week.

Day 7 – Kununurra
Although it’s the last day of your cruise, the stunning scenery continues. Today, you’ll be transferred from the boat via helicopter, soaring over the beautiful Mitchell Falls to the Mitchell Plateau airstrip. There, a fixed-wing aircraft will be waiting to take you back to Kununurra Airport for your transfer to accommodation.
